Safe Boating Resources

Safe Boating Guide

Transport Canada publishes this resource to help you know the regulations that apply to boating and that you learn more about safe and responsible boating practices.

Clean, Drain, and Dry Your Boat

Following the Clean, Drain and Dry guidelines for your boat and equipment after each use is the best way to prevent the spread of harmful AIS and ensures that you don't transport or introduce prohibited aquatic species. See also: Clean, Drain, and Dry Your Boat.

Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOC)

In order to legally operate a motorized pleasure craft in Canada, you must be able to provide proof of competency. Unless you have completed a boating safety course in Canada prior to April 1, 1999, obtained a specified marine safety certificate issued to professional mariners, or have an applicable Rental Boat Safety Checklist, a Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOC) is required as proof of competency.

Be Wake Aware

The Federation of Cottage Associations (FOCA) is excited to introduce the Be #WakeAware campaign in partnership with the Muskoka Lakes Association and Safe Quiet Lakes. This initiative aims to promote awareness among boaters, ensuring that all lake and river users can enjoy their time on the water safely and sustainably.
