Keeping Things Clear and Compliant

The Ontario Not‑for‑Profit Corporations Act (ONCA) came into effect in 2021, giving non‑profits a three‑year window to update their bylaws. Like many organizations, we took a little longer than planned to work through the details (we’re in good company on that front 😊. The good news is: we’re on it now, and moving forward with the updates needed.

To stay compliant, we’re now making the required updates—some driven directly by legislation, others simply housekeeping improvements such as formatting, clarity, and plain‑language refinements.

Since these updates are necessary, the Board decided to make the most of the opportunity to ensure they’re as clear, well-structured, and comprehensive as possible.

In addition to forming a committee to lead this effort, we have outlined the recommended actions for our organization and set a timeline with clear priorities.

While these updates won’t change how our association operates, they will ensure our governance remains aligned with ONCA’s standards.

The bylaw committee is making use of the many excellent resources available to guide us through this process. To support our work, we’ve developed a structured plan to navigate each step.

We’ll be seeking member approval at the 2026 AGM, where a two-thirds majority will be needed to finalize these changes. Be sure to check back here regularly for updates on the review process.

Thank you for your continued support!
