Forestry

The annual work schedule for selected forest harvest and silviculture operations plays a key role in the sustainable management of Ontario’s Crown forests. These plans, available online, outline the various forestry activities planned for the year, including timber harvesting, forest regeneration, road construction, prescribed burns, aerial pesticide applications, and insect pest management. The public can access these details and review annual reports detailing completed activities.

For the 2024/2025 schedule at Trout Lake, refer to the map derived from the “2020-2030 Forest Management Plan for the Nipissing Forest,” created by the Vermilion Forest Management Company. You can find more comprehensive information on the Natural Resources Information portal.

The TLCA has worked hard to protect Trout Lake, successfully advocating for a one-mile buffer zone where logging is prohibited.

To help maintain this protection, we rely on volunteers to monitor logging operations, ensuring compliance and preventing pollution, spills, and waste in the area. If you’re interested in getting involved, visit our Volunteer with Us page to sign up as a monitor.

Additionally, we appealed part of the Forest Management Plan (2020-2025), preventing summer logging and hauling on busy roads around the lake—reducing disruption during the warmer months.
